Greensward NZ started with one mower and a handful of lawns in East Auckland. The idea wasn't complicated: quote a fair price, do the whole job properly including the parts nobody notices, take the rubbish away, and come back on the day we said.
That turns out to be a surprisingly rare combination in this trade. Most complaints we hear about previous contractors are the same three things — the price crept up, the edges weren't done, or nobody turned up for three weeks and then scalped the lawn to catch up. So those are the three things we built the business around not doing.
What “greensward” means
It's an old English word for turf — an expanse of short grass covering ground. It seemed a better fit for what we actually do than another name with “Pro” or “Mow” in it.
How we work
We run scheduled days by suburb rather than criss-crossing the city job to job. That single decision does most of the work: it keeps travel costs out of your price, it means you know which day we're coming, and it means the same crew sees your property every visit — so they already know the gates, the dog, the sprinkler head hiding in the back lawn.
For regular clients we adjust frequency through the season instead of billing the same cycle year round. Auckland lawns want cutting every 7–10 days from October to April and every three or four weeks over winter. Charging you for summer frequency in July would be easy money and it isn't how we want to run this.
What we won't do
We don't top trees, because it permanently damages them and produces weak regrowth that's more dangerous than what was removed. We don't take on large tree removals over houses or power lines, because that needs a full arborist crew with rigging and we'd rather refer you than have a go. And we won't sell you seed for a lawn that can't work — if an area is too shaded to hold grass, we'll tell you that and suggest a mulched bed instead.
Insurance and registration
Greensward NZ Limited is a registered New Zealand company carrying public liability insurance. That covers your property and your neighbours' while we're working — which matters more than people realise the first time a stone comes off a line trimmer near a car.
